Best Time of Year to Climb Kilimanjaro
You can climb Kilimanjaro in any month, but the experience changes with the seasons. Here's what to expect through the year.
January to March — dry and quiet
Generally warm and dry after the short rains, and away from the high-season crowds. One of our favourite windows to climb.
April and May — the long rains
The wettest, most unpredictable period. If you don't mind rain you can have the mountain almost to yourself, and discounts are usually available.
June to early November — dry but busy
The driest months and peak season, especially August to October. June, July and early November are excellent, slightly quieter compromises.
November to mid-December — the short rains
Usually 3–4 weeks of lighter rain — a good time to enjoy the mountain without the crowds.
Whatever month you choose, remember the weather on a 5,895 m mountain can change fast. We plan for it — tell us your travel dates and we'll advise on the best route and timing.
