About Tanzania's wildlife

Tanzania is world-famous for spectacular scenery and density of wildlife, with the northern section being the most visited. The escarpments and volcanoes of the Great Rift Valley form a dramatic backdrop to game-covered plains below, while snow-capped Kilimanjaro — Africa's highest mountain at 5,895 m — is a mecca for trekkers and mountaineers.

The national parks are a haven for huge concentrations of animals and birdlife. The Serengeti alone has nearly two million wildebeest and zebra migrating along age-old pathways, followed by lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena and jackal. The famous Ngorongoro Crater is a massive volcanic caldera where some 25,000 animals live in a setting of unparalleled grandeur, and Maasai tribespeople have herded their cattle here for hundreds of years.

We arrange safari extensions right after your Kilimanjaro climb. To find out more about our full range of Tanzania safaris and tours, contact our Moshi team.
